Love The Alarm, I first heard them when John Peel played them when they were called Alarm Alarm. I wonder how those lyrics would read in Welsh!

Is it true they were once called "The Toilets"?

Hee Hee Hee.....how wrong you are:

The Alarm story begins in 1978, when the group Seventeen was formed in Rhyl, as a rather belated response to punk. The members had come together from various local groups including The Toilets, Quasimodo and Chuck Burial & The Embalmed. Seventeen played mod-tinged pop, released an indie single called Don't Let Go, and were kicked off a Dexy's support slot after just one show.

The four members had an inkling they were onto something special, and, motivated by a sense of their own musical importance and a deep-felt desire to make their mark, they aimed to become the stuff of legend. In 1981, Seventeen announced their new name, Alarm Alarm, soon after shortened to The Alarm.

Thanks for the info. They still tour but I 'm not sure if it is the original band.

Mike Peters is still the lead singer but he is the only original member of the band. They played at Guilfest last year. A new album and a tour is scheduled for early next year. They also had a single in the Top 40 in 2004 under "The Poppyfields" pseudonym called 45rpm (yes it was them).

You'll also find them cunningly disguised as Dead Men Walking featuring guest appearances from Captain Sensible, Billy Duffy (The Cult) and Bruce Watson (Big Country) in recent times.

You'll also find them cunningly disguised as Coloursound as well.

There's also an "annual gathering" in Lladudno every January but next years is already sold out.

Hi all,

Thanks very much for your kind messages.  I won't bang on about it, except to say:

1) The ATF indoctrination has indeed begun!

2) Mike - you (i.e. the forum) certainly may pick a name if you wish - I just can't guarantee we'll go with it!!  Maybe we could use it as a forum name or something and I'll let the baby post things like "goo goo ga ga".  (Cue rude comments about those of us who already do!)

2) Jonathon - I'll call you directly later so I don't bore everybody!

3) Since everybody else is going "off piste" (or not sticking to the subject of ATF) The Alarm's line up on their most recent album was Mike Peters, James Stevenson (guitars), Craig Adams (Bass) and Steve Grantley (Drums).  From their website you can get a superb 7 disc box set which includes EVERYTHING the original band released: all of their albums remastered + all the b-sides, alternative takes, rarities, etc. They also had a thing whereby, if you pre-ordered it, you also got a unique recording of Mike Peters singing the Alarm song of your choice, dedicated to you!  Imagine if we could get the same for ATF, including all those BBC live sessions, 12" versions (Life In The City!), unreleased tracks, etc...!  Not that I'm complaining about the recent CD releases mind!

Off back to the hospital.  Ta-ta for now!

I'm amazed at the coincidence! Didn't the Alarm famously play Greenbelt as well? I think we could get away with the similarity though as the 1x1 reference is completely different. Interesting likeness though..

Gosh, you are a maternal bunch, aren't you?! If you really want to see pictures of a 1-day old Winston Churchill look-a-like, I do have some, but my problem is whenever I try to upload piccies, it doesn't work. If one of you knows how to do it & is desperate enough to see them, PM me your email address & I'll pass them on for you to upload. Can't do it tonight though - mother not so good & I've got to sleep at the hospital!
