Just been listening to "Sessions" after a long break. Trying to decide whether "Take me Higher" or "Starflight" is the best post SOC ATF track. Because they come together at the end, and have certain similarities, I tend to see them as an entity - both spiritually uplifting - one more focussed on the Creator, and the other, a reverse cosmic zoom through the Creation. Just wonderful!

Reckon "Take me higher" takes the biscuit.

...but there again... ;-)

Sessions is a great CD - ATF are, I think, first and
foremost a live band. I didn't like the production on
some of the LL songs, which lacked the "je ne sais quoi"
of the live performances.
I would disagree with my feathered friend in that
although I do love their early stuff, I think their best
stuff was done post Nick Battle.
As to their best track? There are many contenders.
Starflight and Take Me Higher are great, but then so to
are Check It Out, Listen to Me and Billy Billy. Joy is
the perfect opening number for a gig, although the lyrics
are nothing.
However, my all time favourite is You never told Me - one
of the first songs written after John Russell joined, but
sadly it has never appeared on any release.

From my (blinkered) viewpoint, I don't like Joy as an opener, being the whole band at full throttle from the first beat which doesn't allow any fine-tuning of the mix. I'd much rather have 1980-F because the guys come in gradually. But that's just the thoughts of a (retired, deaf) soundman: feel free to disagree...but you'll have to shout!

-Kevin, I agree about the Laser Love Album tracks. In hindsight they seem - well, a bit tame. I don't have LL any more, and prefer to hear the tracks live.
I refer to post SOC because of the change in style, which means I wouldn't try to compare them with each other, even though there are some interesting common threads if you listen carefully.
Is "You never told me" somewhere available to hear? (desite never having been released!) Could you sing it for us?
P.S. The lyrics to "Joy" are masterful!
