I'd just like to say that this was the first time I'd seen the band live, despite being a fan-club member in 1980 (never got to any shows, although I did get to watch the 'Rock Goes To College' performance and wore out my cassette tapes of the two Radio 1 'In Concert' shows...)
I REALLY enjoyed the show. Almost brought a tear to my eye as I suddenly felt 16 again... Scary!!
Highlights for me...
Time to Think, Billy Billy, Starflight and Forged From Faith (that is a CRACKER of a song!!!) and the lead vocals in general...superb singer!!!
I do just have to say though, there were a few dodgy moments up there. Don't know what happened in Laser Love and the odd 'bum' note sneaked in here and there. Also, the 'African' percussion in One Rule was a bit ropey!!! Mind you, playing in a band myself, I know what venues like that are like. The onstage sound is often terrible and you often can't hear a note you are playing...or that anyone else is playing either!!! Doesn't exactly help! From where I was sitting, it certainly looked as though there were a few monitoring problems. Lots of eye contact and nodding heads to keep everyone in time and on cue (my own band regularly experience the same joys!!!) Anyway, despite that (very minor) little niggle (I'm just a bit of a perfectionist, I guess )I have to say that I enjoyed every last second of the show and will do my utmost to get to other shows if the band keep playing them!!
Looking forward to the new CD too. If all the songs the band write are as good as Forged From Faith, we are in for a real winner!!!!
