Anybody get the Guardian today?  I don't normally but can't resist free CDs...anyway, there was a half page article in it all about rock stars who are "quietly Christian".  We all know who started that off, don't we?!  No mention of ver lads, sadly, but very interesting - Greenbelt & Cross Rhythms are in there, U2 and Cliffy (as you'd expect), the Bedingfields...and Athlete!  Didn't see that one coming.  Anybody know of other undercover Chrispies?  My suspisions about the Flower Kings appear to have been confirmed, but I'd be interested to know which side of the hedge Threshold sit on...

Oh dear - are people trying to play the 'Spot the Christian musician' again.

This was very popular in the days of 'Strait' etc . I've got to say I never thought it was particularly helpful to those named ( but hopefully not shamed)  by being 'outed' - i suspect often quite early in their Christian development.  Where are some of these now? I just hope they are still disciples.

While this approach may have brought some undiscovered genius to our attention - Bruce Cockburn became a valuable addition to our modern lifestyle  - this trumpeting our involvement with the mainstream has hardly brought Christianity much credibility, and certainly hasn't changed many peoples views of us (at least not while Christians publicly demonise gay people and are seemingly motivated by God to invade other peoples countries, for no apparent reason....ie big things which actually matter..........please don't get me started on this one.)

I think the likes of Moby try hard to distance themselves from being associated with Christianity for those sort of reasons (although being photographed in Q with 12 naked models was a BIT excessive).

I am firmly of the opinion that our family in the mainstream of the arts have enough to contend with, wresting with a medium which is as fallen as the rest of the world and with some artists actively hostile to Christianity,  as it is,  without being identified with the worst aspects of Christianity - lets leave them to be as anonymous as they wish to be.

Of course If they want to blow the trumpet themselves thats different..... more power to Delirious? and U2 who are just being true to themselves as believers - and are quite happy to tell us where they are at through their art - I dont think either of these could mince words if they tried . But lets not go hunting for quiet brethren - quite frankly chaps it doesnt help them.

I think i will get some response here...............

Well, as I was the one who started the topic, I'll reply first...

I'm not particularly into "outing" or hunting Christians who don't want to declare themselves, but I was seeking to identify those current artists who are happy to quietly profess their faith, in order to pray for them.  It's not an easy business to function in and so prayer is clearly important.

If I'd have appeared in Q with 12 naked models, I'd need prayer...!  (In fact, I've seen that picture & I think I could do with the prayer anyway!  )

And I would have needed a cold shower.

And twelve pairs of glasses.

Over The Rhine, Sufjan Stevens. Athlete originate from an Ichthus church. Mike Peters/Alarm, Technos in their day. U2.

Christians who I wish would be quiet: um, no, better not

I just like to say that I'm not quiet.

I'm very loud. Very LOUD indeed.

Bang! Bang! Love this emoticon
