Hi all

A nasty flaw has been found in all versions of Windows, regardless of service packs.

Full information can be found here.

A temporary fix for XP can be found here and then unregister shimgvw.dll by selecting start/run & typing "regsvr32 -u %windir%/system32/shimgvw.dll" without the quotes.

A fix for XP & 2000 will be distributed as part of the windows updates on 10th Jan.

"Right now, the situation is bad, but it could be much worse. The potential for problems is bigger than we have ever seen," Hypponen said. "We estimate 99 percent of computers worldwide are vulnerable to this attack." Mikko Hypponen, chief research officer at F-Secure

What if Operating Systems Were Airlines?

Mac Airlines

All the stewards, stewardesses, captains, baggage handlers, and ticket agents look the same, act the same, and talk the same. Every time you ask questions about details, you are told you don't need to know, don't want to know, and would you please return to your seat and watch the movie.

Windows Air

The terminal is pretty and colorful, with friendly stewards, easy baggage check and boarding, and a smooth take-off.  After about 10 minutes in the air, the plane explodes with no warning whatsoever.

Windows XP Air

Just like Windows Air, but costs more, uses much bigger planes, and takes out all the other aircraft within a 40-mile radius when it explodes.

I rest my case - again!

Sorry couldn't resist! Now is the time to check out the Mac Mini especially
with possible new ones coming at Macworld tomorrow!

Warm regards, and sympathy

John

I have never had any serious problems with my PC.

The only problems people have is when they do something they shouldn't do I can relate to that from experience having to sort peoples PC's at work.

my motto is "if it works leave it alone"

I think Windows is great but i also think macs are cool to.

Just you wait till your Mac panics!

Then you'll realise that below that cuddly exterior is a real computer!
