well what can you say???

they are back big time great show great sound
and hats off to the stickster what a drummer and the best sounding drum kit i have heard in ages i even had to shake his hand in the break( yes i was the ugly bloke by the door)

if this line up stays the same i will be more than happy, never heard any of Robs songs before so it is hard to comment on them but i was tapping my foot along to them!!

only down side was
you could not hear pete's drums in wild west show and worst of all no JOY or STARFLIGHT hang your head in shame boys

even the wife and sprog said they enjoyed it, anyone thinking about going to the rest of the tour don't think go you will not want to miss it

ATF Tour Diary 2

Just got up and have that 'morning after' head. Last night was show number 2 at the Farncombe Music Club. I had no traffic problems on the way this time save a 5 minute hold up in the M25. I've been here once before - Julian the promotor put Gareth and I on last year for a fairtrade gig. It was great to be back, this time with (as the promotion said) the Mighty After The Fire! Wow - my first time in a mighty band

Pete and John were the last to roll up - Pete was held up and got there late. We had a few technical problems, all to do with my guitars (but not my fault!)  but JP and the road crew excelled. Back in the changing room and some bloke called Ishmael walked in to say hello which was nice. He's been ill lately but he looked great and it was v.cool to meet him. Then Matt Russel walked in. Matt drummed for ATF last year - great to see him again.

I always find it strange playing a gig to people sat in pews. Ian suggested that we start of by asking if there was anyone present who knew of any lawful impediment why ATF should not play. But we didn't - we just launched into the first set with Sometimes. It was LOUD - which in my opinion isn't a bad thing. At least John could hear it!

I loved the fact that Tims drums were on a riser that I could jump off. I managed it a coulple of times without breaking anything although there was a close shave with my rock'n'roll cup of tea in Life in the City.

The second set started with my song Eleana with Matt joining me on the Djembi. It was great doing that again. Then 'Roger Daultry' - funny how Roger Daultry sang a song called 'After The Fire' and I have a song called 'Roger Daultry'. The rest of the second set was cool. There was loads of room and the radio mic meant I could run about and stage dive and crowd surf. I didn't but I could have done.

It was a great crowd and a stunning place to play - there were people younger than me in the audience! John was completly bessotted with the beer that was on sale. Freedom Ale, a fairtrade beer with William Wiberforce on the label. Church beer - How cool!!!

Back to Julians for a curry and popadoms and red wine. Roll on with the next one...

Don't you know you've got The Who's biggest fan on this forum? How
dare you mis-spell Daltrey! I'll have words with you at Cambridge next
Friday.

Oh ok, the words I have with you will probably consist of "Will you sign
my new CD please?".

Not quite sure the formatting in the quote in my last post worked. I'd edit it,
but I like the way it looks.

After The Fire are back. It's been confirmed. There was definitly a sighting tonight.
I have alway thought that there is a certain sound that defines ATF and it can be heard in the line up tonight. Driving drums and rythm section, great harmonies. Charismatic frontman. Head banging, dancing in the shadows, those classic ATF songs. Great synth work from Pete. John is alway fab (totally unbiased opinion of course) How I've missed this. The new song in set one is classic ATF and I'm sure when it gets recorded it will become a fan fav. Robs songs are very good also. Although not ATF sounding. Still very good with intelligent lyrics. All in all a great show. If your wondering whether to go and see them after last time (as I was) then hesitate no more. Go give your ears a treat. ATF are back. Put your rock gear on. ATF, ATF....
But (here comes the Simon Cowel it) I missed Thunderbirds at the beginning. Alway gave an expectation of what was to come. Loved hearing some of the classic tracks like......go see for yourself. Welcome back ATF.

Current mood: sleepy

OK, I'll start with an apology. I spelt Daltry wrong and it upset someone! Sorry!

Last night was the South east London show in Penge I think. Or Beckenham. I'm not to good at knowing where I am and it showed last night on the way home but more of that later.

We rolled up to the venue at about 4:15pm. I was following Mr Banks who had sat-nav. Saw lots of Croydon on the way. Hmmm. Nice. Great

Went through a few tunes in the sound-check and sorted out where my cup of tea would go during the gig. Very important you know. Then we were fed copious amounts of spaghetti bol which was nice. Spent a while looking at Punch magazine's "Secret Diary of John Major" and some random readers digest jokes.

The the show started and it looked like we might have nailed it until something happend with Petes wires. In the silence I wracked my brains for a joke but could only think of an inapropriate one I'd just read in the Readers Digest. Anyway, that was sorted and the gig was fun. I did my solo thing and tried a different song that someone said made me sound like Gordon Giltrap.

Great to get the audience involved and some dancing going on. Another good one but I need to sort the chords on a particular song or Niblo's going to frown me to death.

Thought I'd go the dartford tunnel way home but ended up going through the west end. No sat-nav makes life so much more enjoyable you know.

Home at 2:30am. Now to learn those chords.....

Err cough. It is Roger DALTREY. And no it wasn't me who complained. Great song btw.

I'm going to be on Mastermind soon explaining about HTB. It is Holy Trinity Beckenham on account of half of it being in Sydenham and half in Penge so as not to confuse it with Holy Trinity Penge in Anerley. (There was in fact a Penge Bungalow Murder and I can bore for England on that subject too.)

Helen, the sound check drummer, asked why I kept explaining how to escape from this forsaken place. You may be able to tell her. Anyway since she kept saying it I didn't tell you. Sorry.

I'm pleased you found one of the newer Private Eyes. I am looking forward to reading that one.

You did well for us Rob. Wild West was an especially good bit of showmanship. Enjoy the rest of the tour.

Thanks again to all
