What a fantastic time was had at Rogerthorpe Manor last night although the weather turned nasty towards the end of the evening (joke) very foggy it didn’t dampen everyone’s enjoyment.

I must say the reservations that have been muted elsewhere where not in evidence and I have to say that this performance was up there with some of the best ATF gigs from the past

TWO (Turner Winfield Originals) were very good and best wishes to them as they work on their Album (debut one I think)

Rob Dunshire’s poetry was a real hoot especially the one about Roger Moore

Highlights for me were Pilgrim, Help, Laser Love, Take Me Higher & Are We Alright (Show Of Hands) cover

Lowlights not hearing Joy

Finally can I have what John was on – what a performance and many thanks to Rob Hare for promoting the gig

David

Yes - great show.

Highlights for me were Laser Love and Der Kommissar (yes, they kept me waiting for my highlights!). Lowlights were that they did quite a bit of stuff that was unfamiliar to me. I have the CBS recordings but only bought Signs of Change last night, so I'm sure those songs will be familiar to me next time. There will be a next time in the north won't there? Please!

I've liked ATF for over 20 years but this was the first chance I'd had to see them on stage - it was worth the wait.

Another highlight was meeting the members of the group and getting them to sign my DVD cover.

Great show, for several reasons apart from the expected 'highs'. I won't spoil it by giving away all the tracks, though. It started with an intriguing, innovative and memorable presentation of the opening number, first John, then etc, with fantastic crescendo from Matt! I loved the fact there were four tracks from the Batteries album, with an interesting account upon how one came to be written - I never thought I'd hear three of those tracks again. There was also good reasoning in the use of the track from ATF2, and memorable presentation of that. The patter was as good as ever - "and now a medley of our greatest HIT (sic)", being an hilarious example. And the closing songs were naturally magnificent, with fantastic lighting, especially for my 14 year old son. I suspect there was no time for "Joy" as we overran on the hotel schedule.

Sorry to brag, but I even had "Help!" sung and dedicated to me: my wife asked Banksy in the interval cos it was a birthday treat, and he recognised my name from a post of mine. That was so special, as I believe that song even displaces "Joy". It's just amazing, so innovative, yet so enduring, and such poignant Beatles lyrics to have made a point about (which even Beatles fans probably don't hear properly i.e. it was a cry for help!).

In the request spot, I wished I'd shouted out "Rich Boys". Perhaps the lyrics have aged somewhat, however it's such fun to hear. Please ATF bear in mind, together with every other song you've yet to reintroduce! By the way, I get the impression that perhaps some songs need more introduction re the Album etc? And the reason they came into being? Mind you, it's not a lecture, is it?!

Keep touring, because this is good, purposeful, creative music.

Dear L***man80f.

I am so glad you enjoyed the gig on Tuesday, as someone who couldn't get there due to not being able to get time off work and being on a late shift, I am grateful for being able to read you comments.

I do, however, agree with my friend Pushbikemike that the lack of Joy is a great shock and whereas I forgive the band for not playing it this tour, I would like to think it will be highlighted on the next tour. I was informed of some of the finer details from my good friend Timey about the rest of the gig although I didn't hear his thoughts on Take Me Higher - my favourite song. As for Help displacing Joy, a phrase involving soap and mouth comes to mind! If Dixarn reads this, I'll hold his coat! Wink

I have to agree: Great Show.

It's 25 years since I last saw the band (in York). The acoustic sound was certainly very different but it worked for me! It's difficult to pick out highlights - the whole performance was hugely entertaining.

TWO were excellent - I thought their voices blended beautifully.

Request: don't leave it another 25 years to return to Yorkshire!

It was 25 years since I'd last seen After the Fire, so I went along not really sure what to expect. Would it be the same without Andy? Would it be as good as the old days? Would the songs sound as good?

The venue was bijou, let's say, which was to be expected after such a long time away. The small venue allowed a more intimate atmosphere; you can actually see the band, even from the back of the room. It was also remote, which without sat nav could have been tricky to find in deepest Yorkshire. (I was coming from Bradford - about 30 mins away on M62).

The gig: John opened on his own with "Power of a Jet" - oh, WOW! John is quite a singer, and the reworked accoustic-mix was excellent. In fact, a lot of the songs were re-worked, and re-worked very well. Full marks, boys. (I don't know why John didn't do more of the vocals way back then - clearly a man of hidden talents!). There were lots of other old favourites, and some I didn't recognise, but other than Pilgrim, that songs stands out for me.

Highlight: Pilgrim :-), although it was part of a medley :-( (I know, I
know - can't please all of the people all of the time...)

Lowlight: The end!

Overall: Delighted to see them again after so long (I last saw them at the Dominion, TCR in 1982). The songs stand up well after such a long time, and the re-works make them sound fresh. As good as the old days? I'll sidestep that question and say they were good value for the money - and that's what counts.

One queer thing: The lighting, such as it was, cast dark shadows on Pete's
glasses - giving him a very haunting look!

Back home in Herts now, so I just might go to Colchester...

Was I alone in sensing a certain friction between the members of TWO?

Never mind Yorkshire - it was 12.30 when I got home and I had work in the morning! Next time, come to Merseyside!
