Hi folk!

Just thought I should mention a copy of Signs Of Change (vinyl) on eBay, with NO RESERVE. Don't see that very often.

A possible bargain for a collector!

Why not go for the CD version which includes the 4 bonus tracks?

This raises an interesting point - the link between vinyl and nostalgia. Many CDs I now have, I originally owned as LPs in an earlier life. The CDs don't really replace the tactile vinyl with covers like works of art - they are more like reminders of the original - and in many cases the covers are hopelessly compromised and unreadable. And of course, you don't get the crackles, and the hum of the needle in the groove.

The recent SOC CD, however, is lovingly recreated as far as possible, and almost allows for a waft of nostalgia, with its black, grooved appearance, and racing car to boot. The cover is thoughtfully  made, with some historical notes, and full lyrics - even if I have to reach for my reading glasses.

I'm glad to say that I too got to know SOC as 12" 33.3 RPM, scratchable vinyl back in the early 80's, but I'm also willing to embrace the advantages of CDs without too many tears, because I still have the memory of it.

A parallel e.g. would be the Beatles Red double Album. It was great when you could turn the left/right balance button, and just listen to the voices, or just the instruments. Those days have gone - for me anyway, but I'm not too sad.

Of course, these young wippersnappers like Halligan have no vinyl knocking around the second hand shops anyway, so nostalgia is not an issue - we can simply enjoy. If you want the crackles, you can see him live!! (no offence Rob!)

Now I've lost my track (do I need to point out the unintentional pun?) so I'd better finish before I get stuck in the groove...

Yep, I'm sad/happy too, buying CDs of favourite albums and keeping both!!

Perhaps Sadies or Happies could be the alternative to Friends status?!!

We didn't replace our stylus for a long time after it broke, but now the turntable needs mending: it turns fast and sloooowly and fast and sloooowly ... making singing in the latter case sound like the opposite of Pinky and Perky!  Needless to say, we don't bother!
