An excellent evening, band really enjoying themselves, same set list as Harrow, highlights for me; "Time to think" and "Whose gona...." with the subtle change of lyrics, the "One Rule", medley "Dark side", "Billy.." with a wonderful guitar solo. "Gina" worked very well with a "real" piano, "Help" I could have done without, and would have liked a full "Listern to Me", and "Pilgrim", but that aside, very good musicanship, Pete's keyboards mix in the sound sometimes to low sadly where I was sitting. Enjoyed Matt's drum frills/panto drum rolls, Pete's patter re some of the songs, [brought "Dark Side" to life]. Forgot to add about the audiance partisipation, best in "us" doing the "backing vocals" for Laser Love. Also, enjoyed the Show of Hands song, and Pete right when saying they should have won a Folk award for ther song "Roots", [ find it on the Folk Awards sampler on Proper records]. The venue manager [?] joined in for "Island", and would welcome A.T.F. return, and I hope they do !

P.S John wearing double hearing aids, is this due damage from being a long term musican, also being videoed, for a future release, definitly need a live disc from the gig.

P.S 2 Spell checker does not work, please excuse errors.

Hi Ralph,

Thanks for the review. It certainly felt great to be there on Saturday and
on balance, we felt we played well. It's interesting to note that quite a few
younger people were there, probably sons and daughters but the
interesting thing is that they have also been very positive about the band.
Must be Matt's doing!!

Regarding the hearing aids thing. I'm sure that a lifetime playing rock
music hasn't helped but there is also a congenital issue on my mother's
side of the family that affects the males in the line. Most of my uncles
have hearing problems. In my case, my ears roll off at about 1k but are
relatively normal below that. So it's the higher frequencies I need help
with. The newer digital aids are able to be frequency specific so are a real
boon to me.

I'm very sensitive to volume levels these days and don't like playing 'too
loudly'. Fortunately the current generation seem to be better informed on
the potential hearing problems inherent in exposure to high volume
levels and Matt always carries his ear defenders.

I'm a bit of an evangelist when it comes to encouraging people who have
hearing difficulties to do something about it. I've found that many people
struggle on because of some ill perceived view that it's not worth
worrying about. Get it sorted! When I got my digital aids it re-awoke my
love for music. They're that good!

Regards,

John
