Prior to joining ATF in 1980 Nick Brotherwood was the drummer with two excellent bands.

The first was The Mighty Flyers along with Dave Rees, Norman Barratt and various other muso's. I only saw them a couple of times and on both occasions was completly blown away. Unfortunatly the band split up early in 1977, playing their fairwell Concert at Manchester Free Trade Hall on Feb 4th of that year. It was a really good gig but as with so many things, life moves on and I was pleased to hear from Nick himself at the end of that gig that he and Norman Barratt were to join forces with Alwyn Wall to form a new band.

I think that the Alwyn Wall bands' first gig was at Greenbelt at the end of August in 1977. Again an excellant show with Mr Brotherwood providing a first class performance. Their music was much more laid back than that of The Mighty Flyers, a bit like The Eagles, and went down really well with Greenbelts assembled masses, so I was rather suprised when they two split up after only about a year (I think).

I was never able to see Nick play with ATF because I was quite ill during the first half of 1980 and by the time I was fit again Peter had taken over the Drummers spot. The only song Nicks efforts behind the Drum kit can be heard on (I think) is "Every Mothers son" and probably shows the although He was a very good Drummer, He didn't quite fit the ATF mould.

Nick went on to become a Church Minister and I believe is currently working in Canada.

Do any of my ramblings bring back memories for Forum Members? I'd love to hear about them!

And finally, to Nick, thanks for all the brilliant gigs you've played in and Blessings for the future.

So did Nick support the Rolling Stones....

Such a catchy name as well...

I got hit on the head by one of Nick's drumsticks when he lobbed them into the crowd at the end of the fancy dress gig in Matlock Bath.

Might explain a lot.

Paul.

I saw Nick play the first time that I ever saw ATF play live.  It was in Sheffield, at the Limit club back in 1980.

It wasa great gig and I remember that Andy took to stage with short blond hair.

You can also hear Nick playing on the version of Starflight which appears on the "Nick At Nite Goes To Outer Space" US compilation CD - you can probably pick up a copy fairly cheaply on Amazon.com
