Does anyone know the make and model of John's guitar played at the recent Stafford gig?

'Yup' is very useful!! It is a Godin, don't know the model though. Handmade Canadian guitars - nice.

I liked the look of his amp too. If you cannot afford one try Matamp, handmade in Huddersfield, the original makers of Orange. Find them on the web, great site!!

Seeing as John hasn't divulged the model of his guitar I will have a guess at a Godin LGX-SA.

What happened to the Les Paul and 335 from the Heritage era?

I knew someone would get it! Well done Noel.

I've always had problems finding quality lefthanded guitars but I have a
friend who played one of these and fell in love with it. I was delighted to
discover they made a LH version. It has a built in MIDI pickup and an
acoustic guitar emulator as well. Never used those yet but I'm a sucker for
a gadget!

When the band split in 83 I sold the Les Paul to a neighbour when I was
feeling partiularly broke. Sadly he drilled holes in it and generally
destroyed it. I tried to get it back later but he had sold it on. It would be
worth a fortune now being a 20th Anniversary model. The 335 was also
sold around the same time.

I still have the Strat that Eddie Van Halen modified while we were on tour
with them. It's a 74 standard american strat but retrofitted with a pair of
active EMG pickups and a floating whammy bar system. In the heritage
years it had DiMarzio PAF's on it.

Amps currently used are THD Univalve 15w valve, which is great for
overdriven valve sounds at low volume. More a studio amp than a live
amp though really. Just bought a Koch Studiotone 20w valve amp head
which is a bit louder. I'll try that out at the Bedford gig. I use a Boss GT-6
FX pedal unit but just for Delay, Reverb and Chorus. having said that I just
programmed a sound for the new guitar line at the beginning of the One
Rule for Trade Justice track and I also programmed a Wah Wah sound.
Very retro.

These days I tend to prefer to play at a lower level and monitor through
foldback. Sound engineers love me!

I have to wear digital hearing aids now largely due to exposure to high
SPL's in the past. My ears are seriously rolled off after about 1K. So be
warned and use ear plugs!

Cheers!

John

Thanks for the info John. I have admired Godin for some time now, anything made by hand has that inherent individuality as opposed to the mass produced guitars everyone seems to play!

Thanks for the replies guys-I really enjoyed the tone of the guitar (or was it just John's playing). These guitars seem a bit special and definitely too expensive for me!

Sorry to hear about the Edinburgh gig-such a pity.

Many thanks

Paul

Indeed we do. It's so nice to be able to say "you can turn up a bit if you want" instead on sneaking on stage after the soundcheck and turning the amps down.

Paul.

It also helps if the speaker is at a reasonable height so you can hear as you play besides the monitor mix.
