My favourite ATF song of all time is "You Never Told Me".
It must have been one of the first songs that they wrote after John Russell joined the band. It started with a keyboard riff answered by power chords on the guitar. It was the lament of someone in Hell or someone who became a Christian late in life bemoaning the fact that their Christian friend had never told them the Good News when they had the opportunity.
I remember them playing it at the Marquee a couple of times. A few months later they played it at the Hope & Anchor, Islington, but it was a different version and not as goods as the original (I remember sitting in the bar before the gig and hearing ATF in the cellar below practising the reworked version). But shortly after this the song was dropped from the set completely and not on any of the albums.
Why did they rework and then drop the song?
Why did they never release the song?
Does an old recording of it still exist that could be made available?
Are the lyrics available?
We need to know!
