I'm hoping to transfer all my Cambridge videos to DVD over the Christmas holiday. As I used a digital camera, I don't expect the sound quality to be particularly high (I was disappointed when I played it through the computer). I've only got seven songs and am hoping to add more when they play Yorkshire in the new year.

Would it be legal for me to distribute copies of this DVD to members of this forum? Please note I'm talking about postage only: I'm not a bootlegger!

What a fine fellow you are...!

Not sure if the band will like it though - they have their own footage they may wish to release to raise much needed funds

I'm hoping one of the band will answer this thread. If they say no, the answer's no. I'll only go ahead if the band agree. Remember, I did get agreement from Banksy before I put any videos on YouTube.

I am sure those of us that would like your DVD will also be happy to buy any "official DVD" released at a later date by the band.

No drinking over Xmas. I wouldn't you to accidentally copy anything unintentionally

Oh my goodness, this is a tricky one!!!

Legally even if a product is given away you still need to apply for a license from MCPS, in the case of a DVD strangely enough it is called a DVD1. Then a percentage is levied on the perceived value (in the case of a freebie) which gets distributed via the network of publishers etc. Even with our own products on our own label we have to go through the same loop, eventually receiving back most of the money we sent off in the first place!

Nearly all ATF songs are published by IQ Music Ltd and that contract will remain in place for the forseeable future. Our new song(s) and Rob's songs are currently unpublished therefore, with permission, they can be distributed privately without having to pay MCPS.

Practically I personally think this is a great way of lifting interest in the band and if we were nor published then I would have no objection. However, I would not want to encourage anyone to technically break the law or upset the excellent relationship both Andy P and I have with IQ Music therefore it's a no I'm afraid.

Regardless I do hope that clarifies the situation??!!

It clarifies it perfectly, thanks. As I said earlier, if the band says no, the answer's no.

Apologies to anyone who was looking forward to a free DVD.

PB

Does that mean that the initial publishing deal was with the individual writers or with ATF as a group?
