Hang on in folks...........we are novices to getting videos up on YouTube too, but there should be our first two efforts up in a matter of hours. Eventually......... we hope to get up all of the Ipswich gig and most of the St Peter on the Wall service, as well as all of the Greenbelt set, the latter has come out quite well, as we were sat on the grass at the front (just like old times at my first Greenbelt 30 years ago!! ....except that I was a little bit more energetic and animated then and certainly not sitting!!)
Forgive me if I seem OTT but.....................I just LOVE how ATF are evolving!! I'm beginning to feel a bit like a friendly stalker, as I just don't want to miss any of their gigs. Their musical talent shines through and I admire them for daring to do different, try new things and just be experimental and creative (what more could you ask for?) Also they seem to be having such fun on stage, but keep us involved at the same time. AND Pete and John are such good vocalists too (sorry, but I hadn't picked up on that fact before their gig at The Cut..oops!!) Inviting Rob Halligan to sing Carry Me Home was just genius....our dear Mick was sooo correct when he told me last year that Rob was 'well worth listening to' (BTW I am now discovering the delights of Dancing with Seagulls and The NY Sessions, sorry if I've been a bit slow off the mark,Rob!!)
So, for the poor souls who were unable to catch ATF at Greenbelt this year, I don't suppose it really helps to tell you that you missed a cracking set and that they left the stage to the deservedly, enthusiastic demands of "We Want More....etc"(but, watch the video clips!!)
In my youth I would never have imagined that I would witness PB playing a DIY foot-bellow harmonium, or JR on a 'mandolin/cello/zither/thingy' (to roughly quote PB!!) in the oldest chapel in England, with wooden benches for us to sit on and only candle-light and natural light to read by! But it was such a moving worshipful experience, listening closely to ATF singing the astute lyrics of some of my all-time favourite songs by Bob Dylan(I Believe in You), Martyn Joseph(Turn Me Tender Again), Leonard Cohen(Hallelujah)......BTW, Pete, shame on you, how could you forget to mention the STONKING covers from Jeff Buckley and Kevin Max on that one??!!, Steve Knightly/Show of Hands(Are we Alright), Beatles(Help) as well as their/our very own (Sometimes, Dark Side, Take Me Higher, One Rule - for Trade Justice ) oh, yes, and Mark Knopfler's Baloney Again...that made me smile cos I'd long forgotten about that one!! Hymns...What A Friend we have in Jesus, The Lord's my Shepherd, Be Thou my Vision...how good it was to sing them again, most of us by heart, I'm sure! Thank you to all concerned, that was one very special experience for me and I am very confident others felt the same way...I confess to not being dry-eyed by the end of it!! (Ain't that what it's all about?!)
I could go on, but......I am fearful of being accused of being VERY OTT!!!(And no, I was not paid to write this!!....but, there's an idea!!)
LOLuv, Maggie <><
P.S. Who was the tallented bass guitarist, at the service? Also, I am sure these so-called acoustic sets are killing Matt's hands, so a special thanks to him!! And, Ian, we know you were playing at Greenbelt, cos we could hear your wondrous sound, but you're too thin and we couldn't see you behind JR!!
