I was trawling through my cassette collection last night (mostly to see if the "In Concert" R6 recently repeated was one I'd originally caught) when I came across the following:

Greenbelt 1975 (both the Friday and Monday performances)

Greenbelt 1976 (Monday - complete with rain)

Greenbelt 1976, backing Ishmael

Newsbeat 28/4/78, promoting "Signs"

Sheffield Poly 13/5/78 (as a three-piece. Official bootleg as I got permission to record it beforehand)

Radio 1 Sessions 10,11,15/5/79 (I think there was more but I missed it, there being no "Listen again" in those days)

In Concert 20/12/80

OGWT

Rock Goes to College 16/3/81

And now here's the mega-rarity: Arnion - the Pulse (GB Saturday '75). They used to be Narnia and I've no idea whether PB or JR played in it (sorry).

I've no idea about the quality of these tapes and am a little reticent to try and play them, just in case...

So - what do you have in your collection... (Mick, you are excused listing all 87 pages of stuff).

Paul.

For advice on old tapes call Sandelco on 0118 981 9898 or
email sales@sandelcosystems.com
I think cassettes aren't beset by the same problems as quarter
inch but it would be wise to check

Cassettes have their own set of problems, and it also depends on the quality -  though some 'top quality' i.e. expensive ones were/are prone to some interesting difficulties. I could list them, but I don't have all day...

Oh Tapes.

Yes they do have their problems

Main problem i come across is usually head quality on either record or playback and one side of tape always had better reproduction than the other.

I did notice that on some heads there seemed to be a leading edge or a coming away on the contact area.

Paul G: had limited results with the praisin tape. tracks 1-3 side 1 passable side 2 all OK

Two thirds of the workforce of epicentrum loudspeaker systems
met up last night and talked about cassette tape and whether it
was useable. What we reckon is that cheapo tapes will have
survived much better than expensive ones since the problems
with 70s and 80s tape is down to the adhesive which stuck the
par ticles to the, usually black, plastic tape. For the sake of the
heads on the cassette player, however, it would be useful to
check they're not getting clogged up as the tape plays - so raid
the bathroom cabinet of its cotton buds and find some
proprietary head cleaner ! Transferring to another, 21st
century, cassette as you go will mean you've a playable tape.

Mick yes I was and Noel no it isn't - but I'm sure we could rustle
up something in my workshop if you're interested; once learned
never forgotten and I still have some catalogues for
dimensions.
Ah ! the smell of glass fibre and acetone with Radio Caroline
playing in the background..oops, wrong thread !
