Just when is the job of being a father complete? What information and experience needs to be passed between generations?

Last night we took our young children to see their first viewing of ATF at the Godiva Festival. Back in the car one of them asked to listen to the ATF CD.

Job done !

Well done Jacko.

It's perhaps the only parental thing I ever got right - the ATF initiation.

I remember picking Grace up at 14 (fav track Rich Boys) up one day and I was listening to SoC (the Marmite coloured CD - you either love it or hate it. Listening to Pilgrim, she said is this about 8 minutes long. I replied, I thought so. She said, I'd rather be listening to Freebird!!!!!!

I couldn't enthuse any of my family, let alone my children about After The Fire, even though they accept most of our CD collection :-(

Yet being on the forum (going back a few years it was a dynamic interchange of ideas and experiences), was key to my getting into much of the music that I now listen to. That and the Banksy Boy Brief. So now, if I play anything that they don't immediately recognise, they normally ask," Is that one of Rob Halligan's friends, or one of those people?"

It's probably more important that they like the Beatles...

I can't get my children to listen to anything that is not on the current Capital Radio playlist (30 years ago does not count).  But then again - I would not listen to Max Bygraves records when I was their age!

ATF do get some credibility with them though, for being played at the 80's party in that Friends episode.

Can anyone identify a link between Max Bygraves and ATF ?  No, it's not a joke, it's just that Max didn't really rock it up...   My Grandm loved him. I remember playing her my newly bought "Going for the One" album by Yes. Her response was "Well it's very nice, but it's all women singing, isn't it ?"

Is there a link? Yes - they're both on my iPod... :-)

Actually there's just one Max song on my iPod and I bet most people
have never heard of it; 'Do it the safety way'
